A collective where we re-root ourselves with the land
What We Do
The Little Jamaica Stewardship Project (LJSP) hopes to re-connect the land with community. Located in the Little Jamaica neighbourhood, on the traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinabek, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, LJSP believes in the capacity of community to respond directly to our own needs.
Why We Do This
The main goal of this project is to foster kinship in our neighbourhood. As residents of Tkaronto, we are often disconnected from land, whether this be through ongoing developments, finding ourselves in food desserts, or simply not having the time to immerse ourselves in nature.
There is immense power in coming together, and bringing with us our ancestral knowledge and ideas. The LJSP brings together Afro-diasporic cultural traditions and radical practice of collective care to support the growth of self-determined communities.
Future plans
Right now, LJSP is working on a series of workshops called Nature Teaches. In these workshops, we will explore ways we give to the land and the land gives back to us.
